The main aim of this research was to determine
metaphors of gifted students about ideal teacher. In this study, in order to
determine gifted students' metaphors about ideal teacher, qualitative methods were
used. The phenomenological research approach was adopted as the research
design. The data obtained through semi-structured interviews were analyzed
through content analysis. In order to obtain the data of the research, a study
group consisting of 38 gifted middle and high school students studying at
Şanlıurfa Science and Art Center, in the 2017-2018 academic year, was
established. The students’ ideal teacher’ metaphors were determined through
semi-structured interviews which enabled them to Express and justify their
opinions. The semi-stuctured interview forms included open ended sentences. For
example: “Ideal teacher is similar
to..........Because..................”. Metaphores most frequently valued
by gifted students seemed to be related to the theme of proximity. Metaphores
related to the themes of support and need have also been found intensively
after the theme of proximity. Finally, it was seen that the least number of
metaphors are associated with themes of functionality, effectiveness, and
experience. Finally, some suggestions were developed by discussing the research
findings based on the related literature.
