<p>Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the mental health literacy levels of adults and their attitudes and behaviors toward individuals who use addictive substances, as well as to determine the relationship between these variables.Method: This descriptive and correlational study was conducted with a sample of 411 adults. Data were collected using the Personal Information Form, the Mental Health Literacy Scale (MHLS), and the Attitudes and Behaviors Toward Individuals Who Use Addictive Substances Scale (ABTIUAS). Data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical software package. The Kolmogorov–Smirnov test was used to assess the normality of data distribution. Independent samples t-test and Mann–Whitney U test were applied to compare two groups, while One-Way ANOVA and Kruskal–Wallis tests were used to compare more than two groups. Results: The mean total scale scores of the participants were 123,922 ± 13,807 for the MHLS and 73,319 ± 17,157 for the ABTIUAS. No statistically significant relationship was found between overall mental health literacy and attitudes and behaviors toward individuals who use addictive substances. However, a positive but very weak statistically significant relationship was identified between the “Attitudes Toward Mental Health–Related Illnesses” subscale of the Mental Health Literacy Scale and the total score of attitudes and behaviors toward individuals who use substances (r = 0,133, p &amp;lt; 0,05).Conclusion: The study revealed that adults generally have low levels of mental health literacy and display negative attitudes toward individuals who use addictive substances. In addition, a weak correlation was found between mental health literacy levels and stigmatizing attitudes. In this context, it is recommended that future studies evaluate related factors in different sample groups and that educational programs aimed at improving mental health literacy be developed, alongside community-based awareness initiatives to reduce stigma</p></trans-abstract>
