ASTIMLI HASTALARDA YAŞAM KALİTESİNİN DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ

Year 2006, Volume: 20 Issue: 1, 1 - 10, 01.05.2006

Abstract

ASSESSMENT OF QUALITY OF LIFE IN PATIENTS WITH ASTHMA

Year 2006, Volume: 20 Issue: 1, 1 - 10, 01.05.2006

Abstract

Asthma is chronic disease that affects life physically, socially and emotionally. Recently, to evaluate this aspect of the disease, life quality assessment forms are developed. In the present study, life quality of asthmatic patients are evaluated. 120 asthmatic patients that we followed in asthma and allergy clinic in our center was included in the study. The diagnosis of asthma was based on Turkish Thoracic Society recommendations. F/M was 98/22, mean age was 38.19±10.99; AQ 20 and Q score life quality questionnaire forms were filled. The forms consists of 20 questions/4 questions; 0- 20 points and 0-8 points range; 30 days-7 days respectively. AQ mean score was 8.49± 4.26, Q mean score was 3.14±2.02. Patients were categorized into three groups according to quality of life as low, intermediate and high in AQ 20 as 20%, 32.5%, 47.5% and in Q as 25%, 48.33%, 26.66% respectively. There was a significant relation between life quality scores and night and daytime symptoms, % FEV 1 and PEF values (p0.05). In conclusion, treatment aim of asthmatic patients must be not only improving of respiratory functions but also improving of quality of life measurements reflecting physical, emotional and psychological side of illness.
