                                                                                                <abstract><p>In contemporary times, Ministry of Higher Education(MoHE) in Malaysia has announced that public universities are expected to find alternatives forincome generation due to government budgetary constraints. The universities shoulddraw on diverse sources of revenue toensure long-term financial sustainability of their education system. The inherent features and good track of waqf in the prominent universities in the world is seenas a possible solution to fund publicuniversities in Malaysia. Hence, the Ministryof Higher Education has highlighted waqf as one of the ten shifts in MalaysianEducation Blueprint 2015-2025 (Higher Education). Additionally, MoHE haslaunched the “University Transformation Programme” (UniTP) Purple Bookspecifically focusing on enhancing universityrevenue generation through waqf. The extremepressure has caused public universitiesto set up waqf entity towards realizing the government’s aim. The UniTP PurpleBook becomes the reference for public universitiesto set up a waqf entity in their institutions. Therefore, this paper seeks to look briefly into the MalaysianEducation Blueprint 2015-2025 (Higher Education) which outlines various areasfor university transformation a well as a brief discuasionabout UniTP Purple Book will be madewhich serves as a guideline to public universitiesto initiate waqf entity. Besides, this article further investigates the effortstowards realizing waqf funds in public universitiesas well as the challenges that arise. This study has incorporated qualitativeand exploratory approaches. Datacollected will be analyzed based on content analysis approach. In conclusionpart, the researchers offer some recommendationsto face the challenges that occur for future waqf in Malaysia’s highereducation. In addition, the landscape ofwaqf implementation in other Islamic countries such as Turkey could be the bestreference for Malaysia to learn from and adapt. More importantly, it is hoped that this paper wouldcontribute to the betterment of waqf implementation in Malaysian publicuniversities.</p></abstract>
