In this study, have been discussed the poems known as Artoukiyyât of Safiyyuddîn al Hilli, who settled in Mardin as a divan scribe in 700/1300. This type of poems written by the poet for the Artuklu ruler al Meliku al Mansour Najmaddin İlghazi, has the feature of mahbouket at tarafayn, which is the art of ending the couplet with the initial letter. In addition to this artistic feature, it is important for Mardin to contain some socio-cultural clues of that period.
In this study, will be given information about the literary and cultural situation of Mardin during the Artukids period and the life and literary personality of Safiyyuddîn el-Hillî as an important court poet and clerk of the period. In addition, will be revealed his handling of Mardin in his poems. On the other hand, Artûkiyyât poems of the poet consisting of 29 odes, constitute the main subject of the study and will be examined in terms of form and content.
