<p>This study investigates the discursive construction of emotions and their linguistic manifestations within socio-cultural and ideological frameworks. Emotions are approached not merely as individual affective states but as semiotically mediated constructs embedded in discourse. The narratives of 20 women—10 from Turkey and 10 from France—regarding their abortion experiences are subjected to discourse analysis. Emotional expressions identified in the data are categorized using Michael Rinn’s framework of the “mode of semiotisation of emotions.” The analysis explores how emotions are encoded through lexical choices, discursive strategies, and contextual cues, beyond non-verbal or psychological markers. In addressing abortion as a socially and ideologically charged discourse, the study elucidates how affective language functions as a site of meaning-making shaped by power relations, cultural norms, and identity positioning. By highlighting the multilayered interaction between discourse and affect, this research contributes to the understanding of how emotions are not only reflected in language but also constituted through it.</p></trans-abstract>
