                                                                                                <abstract><p>Son yıllarda süreçlerin mükemmelleştirilmesi hedefiyle ortaya çıkan Altı Sigma kavramı ilk olarak 1980’liyıllarda Motorola tarafından dünyaya tanıtılmıştır. O zamandan günümüze, Altı Sigma felsefesini takip edenler, süreç yeterliliğini tahmin etmeden önce süreç ortalamasına belirli bir kaymanın neden eklenmesi gerektiği konusunu sorgulamaktadır. Altı Sigma literatürüne göre süreç ortalamasına eklenmesi gereken bu değer 1.4 ile 1.6 sigma arasında olup, birçok süreç için genellikle 1.5 sigma olarak kabul edilir. Böyle bir düzeltmeye neden ihtiyaç olduğu ve hata oranının tahmini için süreç ortalamasının neden farklı bir değer değilde 1.5 sigma kadar kaydırıldığı sorularının cevabı bu çalışmanın amacını oluşturmaktadır.</p></abstract>
