European Journal of Biology
Call for Paper for the Themed Issue of 2023
European Journal of Biology (Eur J Biol) is an international, scientific, open access journal of Istanbul University, published since 1940. The journal is covered in SCOPUS, Zoological Record, DOAJ, TUBITAK ULAKBIM TR Index, Chemical Abstratcs Service (CAS), CAB Abstracts, CABI (AgBiotechNet Database, Animalscience Database, VetMed Resource, Environmental Impact Database, Horticultural Science Database, Nutrition and Food Sciences Database) and EBSCO Central & Eastern European Academic Source.
The Journal has identified its 2023 themed issue as "Recent advances on the potential antioxidant properties of natural or synthetic molecules in physiological and pathological conditions”.
Themed Issue Information
Disruption of the balance between antioxidants and oxidants leads to oxidative stress caused by reactive oxygen and nitrogen species with the effect of some cellular enzymes, then increased oxidative stress causes cell and tissue damages, and many diseases.
Antioxidants are substances that significantly delay, prevent, or inhibit oxidative damage. Molecules with antioxidants properties are usually anthocyanins, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, polyphenols, carbohydrates and derivatives, terpenoids, and essential oil components, vitamins and minerals. Natural antioxidants are found in foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, seeds, animal tissues etc. They can be extracted from plants, microorganisms and animal tissues. In vitro and in vivo studies, carried with plant extracts demonstrate their antioxidant properties and the roles as cellular protectors. Antioxidants may be used in the treatment and prevention on many diseases, such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, brain stroke, skin diseases as well as they delay the aging process, and help normal physiological functions of cells and tissues. All these are achieved by antioxidants by inducing defense enzymes, reducing hydroperoxides and hydrogen peroxides that trap metal ions, scavenging active free radicals and repairing damage.
We welcome contributions from any perspective such as (but not limited to) the following:
-Natural antioxidants
-Synthetic antioxidant molecules
-Health effects
-Oxidative stress
-Cancer
-Diabetes
-Cardiovascular diseases
-Neurodegenerative diseases
-inflammatory diseases and etc.
-New therapeutic approaches
This special issue aims to contribute to the development of information about antioxidant molecules, the effects of these molecules on the organism in physiological and pathological conditions including some diseases, and new treatment approaches related to these molecules.
