Abstract
The aim of this article is to analyse the sociology of Ziya Gökalp with reference to Emile Durkheim's and Max Weber's interpretations of sociology and sociological methodology. While trying to explain Gökalp's sociological choice between Durkheim and Weber, the article discusses these three sociologists' perceptions and definitions sociology. Although Gökalp's sociology had been formed and developed under the influence of Durkheim's sociological thinking, his concept of “social consciousness” is not a metaphysical one unlike Durkheim's interpretation. Due to the fact that individual is a social being, Gökalp gave the priority to social structures, social functions and social forms. He knew that the individual needs society and social milieu to develop him/herself and his/her abilities. Gökalp's sociological mind foresees that the individual emerges from the society where he/she is born in, but not the society emerges from the individuals who constitute it.
Abstract
Bu makalenin amacı, Ziya Gökalp sosyolojisini Emile Durkheim ve Max Weber'in sosyolojik kuram ve sosyolojik yöntemleri bağlamında incelemek ve Gökalp'in sosyolojik tercih tavrını açıklamaya çalışmaktır. Makalede öncelikle bu üç sosyoloğun sosyolojiyi algılamalarını ve sosyolojiyi tanımlamaları ele alınmıştır. Durkheim sosyolojisindeki temel kavram toplumsal bilinç kavramıdır. Durkheim'a göre sosyoloji, toplumsal yaşayışın değişik billurlaşma/belirgin bir duruma gelme/açıklık kazanma derecelerini bir bütünlük içinde açıklayıcı bir bilim iken; Weber'e göre sosyoloji, kısaca, toplumsal davranışların iç anlamlarını anlamaya çalışan ve onları yalnız sonuçları içinde nedensel olarak açıklayan bir bilimdir. Gökalp sosyolojisi ise Durkheim sosyolojisinin etkisi altında oluşmaya ve gelişmeye başladığı halde, Gökalp'in sosyolojisindeki toplumsal bilinç , Durkheim sosyolojisinde olduğu gibi metafizik/tinsel bir varlık değildir. Ontolojik bakımından, insanın önce toplumsal bir varlık olması bakımından, Gökalp, önceliği toplumsal yapılara, toplumsal işleyişlere, ve toplumsal biçimlere vermiştir. Çünkü, insanın, insan yeteneklerinin gelişmesi için topluma, toplumsal ortama ihtiyaç olduğunu Gökalp bilmektedir. Ziya Gökalp'in sosyolojik aklı, toplumun bireylerden değil, tersine, bireylerin toplumdan doğduklarını öngörür.
