The theory about character education isnot new thing anymore, but in an effort to internalize the values of humanityhas not been studied, particularly in the current development, where there arestill many people who underestimated the existence of pesantren as aterrorist base. In this qualitative case study, we examine a pesantrenin the practice of learning emphasizes the characters learning in an effort tofoster human values. Data taken used direct observation techniques andinterview with the informants (kiai, teacher and santri). Ourresults suggest that pesantren are educational institutions which arevery effective in developing character in students (santri) especiallyon human values which ensure the unity of the nation. This research givesevidence that pesantren in Indonesia are friendly Islamic educationalinstitutions, uphold human rights, democratic, pluralist, and tolerant towardreligion. It becomes important to be known by people worldwide to uphold worldpeace.
