The pharmaceutical industry plays an important role in protecting human health and improving the quality of life. It also has an economic and strategic importance within countries. The pharmaceutical sector, which is considered to be the third sector in the world, is one of the earliest established sectors in Turkey. The aim of this study is to analyze the Turkish pharmaceutical sector.In the study, the most recent data on the subject was used and a descriptive analysis was made.According to Turkey with approximately $ 11 billion pharmaceutical market in the world rankings in 2018, it was ranked 15th. Turkey's pharmaceutical sector as sales volume in 2019 reached 40.7 billion TL in size. Today, it produces more than 12 thousand products in 83 pharmaceutical facilities producing at international standards with 40 thousand employees and exports to more than 170 countries with approximately 470 organizations. Turkey's pharmaceutical exports $ 1.4 billion, imports stood at 5.6 billion dollars. Accordingly, Turkey is one of the country a net importer of drugs. Increasing the average life expectancy, aging of the population, and easier access to healthcare services and pharmaceuticals will increase the demand and investments in the pharmaceutical industry in the upcoming periods. to get rid of dependence on foreign Turkey supported all the drugs in the drug nationalization by the government in recent years and should be continued incentive to domestic production. This situation may also reduce foreign trade deficits by reducing foreign exchange outflows abroad.
