<p>The concept of economic freedoms underlying neoliberalism covers a wide area in the economics literature. The aim of this study is to test the relationship between economic freedom variables and unemployment rates with the data covering the years 2000-2020 for the country category created. Panel data technique was used in the study. According to the results, a negative economic freedom index coefficient was determined and it was statistically significant. Although there is an inverse correlation for trade freedom, it is not statistically significant. These coefficients of economic and trade freedoms support liberal economic approaches. Accordingly, 1% increase in economic freedom reduces unemployment by 3.8%. On the contrary, the coefficients of the investment and business freedom variables, which are the sub-criteria in the model, were positive and statistically significant. A 1% increase in these two variables increases unemployment by 0.64% and 1.05%, respectively.</p></trans-abstract>
