The Second Karabakh War has led to significant changes in the geopolitical landscape of the South Caucasus, the system of alliances in the region, and the positions of various actors. This situation not only affected Armenia’s domestic politics but also brought about profound transformations in its foreign policy as well as its military and security strategies. Since gaining independence, Armenia had largely shaped its security policy around Russia; however, during the Second Karabakh War, it did not receive the expected support from Moscow. This resulted in an unprecedented rise of anti-Russian sentiment in Armenia and triggered serious criticism of the country’s security parameters, which had been shaped to a great extent on the basis of Russian military doctrines. This development ultimately led, after 2020, to Armenia’s increased military cooperation with alternative actors such as India and France.
