Journal of Academic Tourism Analysis (Journal ATA) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal dedicated to advancing original scientific knowledge in tourism and its related disciplines. All submitted manuscripts are expected to meet high academic standards in terms of scientific originality, research ethics, methodological rigor, and theoretical contribution.

Submitted manuscripts must be original works that have not been previously published, are not under consideration for publication elsewhere, and have been approved by all listed authors.

Submission of a manuscript to Journal ATA implies that all authors have approved the content of the manuscript and accepted the journal's editorial policies and publication requirements.

Studies Prioritized by the Journal

Journal ATA gives priority to manuscripts that:

• make original theoretical contributions to tourism literature;
• develop new conceptual models or critically re-evaluate existing theories;
• demonstrate strong research design;
• employ quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-method approaches in accordance with internationally accepted scientific standards;
• adopt interdisciplinary perspectives;
• provide scientific solutions to contemporary tourism issues;
• have the potential to contribute to international scholarship; and
• offer practical implications for tourism policy, management, and industry.

Studies Not Prioritized by the Journal

The following types of manuscripts have a high probability of receiving a Desk Rejection before peer review:

• purely descriptive studies lacking theoretical contribution;
• studies with insufficient literature review;
• manuscripts with inadequately described research methods;
• studies presenting findings without analytical interpretation;
• descriptive reports lacking scientific discussion;
• studies based on insufficient sample size or inadequate data;
• research requiring ethical approval but lacking ethics committee authorization;
• manuscripts that do not comply with academic writing standards;
• manuscripts with unacceptable similarity levels; and
• studies falling outside the journal's aims and scope.

Types of Manuscripts

Journal ATA accepts the following categories of manuscripts.

Research Articles

Empirical studies presenting original data, original analyses, and significant scholarly contributions.

Review Articles

Studies systematically or critically reviewing existing literature on a specific topic.

Conceptual Papers

Studies proposing new conceptual frameworks or critically discussing existing theories.

Methodological Papers

Studies introducing innovations in research methodology, analytical techniques, measurement instruments, or research design.

Manuscript Preparation

Manuscripts submitted to Journal ATA should normally include the following sections:

• Title,
• Abstract,
• Keywords,
• Introduction,
• Literature Review,
• Method,
• Findings,
• Discussion,
• Conclusion,
• References.

The editorial office may approve alternative structures depending on the nature of the manuscript.

Title

The title should be:

• clear;
• original;
• concise; and
• representative of the main contribution of the study.

The use of abbreviations in the title is discouraged.

Abstract

The abstract should clearly summarize:

• the purpose of the study;
• the research methodology;
• the principal findings;
• the scholarly contribution; and
• the main conclusions.

The abstract should not exceed 200 words.

References should not be cited in the abstract.

Keywords

Each manuscript should include three to five keywords.

Keywords should preferably correspond to internationally recognized terminology used in the relevant academic literature.

Academic Writing Style

Manuscripts should be written in a style that is:

• clear;
• coherent;
• academic; and
• objective.

Authors should avoid unnecessary repetition, subjective statements, colloquial language, and non-scientific expressions.

Literature Review

The literature review should demonstrate:

• current knowledge;
• international scholarly coverage;
• critical evaluation; and
• theoretical depth.

Merely listing previous studies is insufficient.

Authors are expected to synthesize existing knowledge and clearly identify the research gap addressed by their study.

Method

The method section should clearly describe:

• research design;
• population and sample;
• data collection procedures;
• data analysis methods; and
• validity and reliability (or trustworthiness where applicable).

Sufficient methodological detail should be provided to ensure the reproducibility of the research.

Findings

The findings section should present only the research results.

Interpretations should be reserved for the discussion section.

Tables and figures should be used effectively without unnecessary duplication.

Discussion

The discussion section should:

• compare findings with existing literature;
• explain theoretical contributions;
• discuss similarities and differences with previous research; and
• clearly demonstrate the originality and scholarly contribution of the study.

Conclusion

The conclusion should separately address:

• principal findings;
• theoretical implications;
• practical implications;
• study limitations and recommendations for future research.

References

References must be prepared in full compliance with the APA 7th Edition citation style.

Every in-text citation must appear in the reference list, and every reference listed must be cited within the manuscript.

Authors are encouraged to use recent and internationally recognized scholarly sources whenever appropriate.

Research Ethics

Studies involving human participants must obtain all necessary ethical approvals before data collection.

Information regarding ethical approval should be clearly stated in the manuscript.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their research complies with all relevant national and international ethical standards.

Authorship Statement

All listed authors must have made substantial scholarly contributions to the research.

Honorary authorship, ghost authorship, and purchased authorship are strictly prohibited.

Authors are encouraged to report their individual contributions using the CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy).

Conflict of Interest

All authors must disclose any financial, institutional, professional, or personal conflicts of interest that may influence the research or publication process.

If no conflict of interest exists, this should also be explicitly stated.

Funding Statement

If the research has received financial support from any institution or funding body, complete funding information must be provided.

Data Availability

Authors are expected to securely retain the research data supporting their findings.

Where ethically and legally appropriate, authors are encouraged to make research data accessible in order to facilitate scientific transparency and reproducibility.

Artificial Intelligence Policy

Artificial intelligence tools may be used solely as supportive tools during manuscript preparation and cannot be credited as authors.

Where generative artificial intelligence technologies have been used substantially, authors must clearly disclose such use within the manuscript.

Authors remain fully responsible for the scientific content, originality, ethical compliance, and accuracy of their work.

Editorial Screening (Desk Review)

Before peer review, the Editor-in-Chief or the Associate Editor may reject manuscripts that fail to satisfy one or more of the following criteria:

• relevance to the journal's aims and scope;
• scientific originality;
• theoretical contribution;
• methodological adequacy;
• ethical compliance;
• conformity with the journal's writing guidelines;
• language quality; and
• similarity assessment.
