Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the level of COVID-19 awareness among adolescents and its associated factors.
Methods: The study is designed as a cross-sectional and correlational research. The sample of the study consisted of 1,148 adolescents attending high schools in a city center. Data were collected using a Personal Information Form and the Coronavirus Awareness Scale. Data analysis involved the use of Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis test, and Spearman Correlation analysis.
Results: The mean score for the contamination precaution awareness sub-dimension of the Coronavirus Awareness Scale was 38.42±5.48. The mean score for the current developments following sub-dimension was 13.58±4.23, and for the hygiene precaution awareness sub-dimension, it was 13.49±3.67. Statistically significant differences were found in the contamination precaution awareness sub-dimension scores according to gender, age, mother's education level, and COVID-19 status. Differences were also found in the awareness of following current developments sub-dimension scores according to the mother's education level and the father's working status, as well as in the hygiene precaution awareness sub-dimension scores according to gender, age, and mother's education level (p <.05). There were positive, moderately significant relationships between contamination precaution awareness and awareness of following current developments (r=0.36, p <.001), contamination precaution awareness and hygiene precaution awareness (r=0.58, p <.001), and between awareness of following current developments and hygiene precaution awareness (r=0.41, p <.001).
Conclusion: Adolescents’ awareness of contamination precautions is above average, while their awareness of following current developments and hygiene precautions is close to average. As awareness of contamination precautions increases, so does awareness of following current developments and hygiene precautions. Similarly, as awareness of following current developments increases, so does awareness of hygiene measures.

Adölesanların COVID-19 Farkındalık Düzeyi ve İlişkili Faktörlerin Belirlenmesi

Year 2024, Volume: 6 Issue: 2, 90 - 97, 30.08.2024
https://doi.org/10.54061/jphn.1422799
