Year 2020, Volume: 13 Issue: 2, 47 - 52, 07.08.2020

Abstract

Acute appendicitis is one of the most common pathologies in emergency surgery practice. While many patients apply with classical symptoms and physical examination findings, some patients experience diagnostic difficulties. The files of 58 patients who were operated in our clinic with a preliminary diagnosis of acute appendicitis were analyzed retrospectively. The diagnosis of the patients was made by history, physical examination, laboratory values and imaging method results. The patients were divided into groups as negative appendectomy, non-complicated and complicated appendicitis according to the operation findings and pathology results. When laboratory parameters were examined, the difference between patients with negative appendectomy and those with
positive appendectomy was statistically significant for leukocyte count, neutrophil count, lymphocyte count, CRP level, neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR and platelet lymphocyte ratio (PLR).
As a result of our study; In complicated and noncomplicated appendicitis cases, NLR (neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio) and PLR (Platelet lymphocyte ratio) can be used as a strong diagnostic marker in cases of inflammatory process.
