Tales are literary texts shaped by the elements of the dominant culture and bear the traces of the culture in which they exist. In tale narratives, the roles assigned to female characters are sometimes depicted as the ideal type of woman, symbolizing goodness and conforming to gender roles. At the same time, at other times they are portrayed as witches, symbolizing evil. Man characters, on the other hand, assume the role of the savior and are active and independent subjects. Thus, the representation of women as marginalized figures in tales is reproduced as these tales become embedded in popular culture and are transmitted from culture to culture and from country to country. In the classic “Cinderella” from the Grimm Brothers’ tales, the traditional roles assigned to woman characters reflect a man-dominated perspective. However, in the rewritten versions of this tale, the aim has been to present a representation of women that differs from the roles imposed on them in traditional tales. Within this framework, it has been observed that significant changes occur in the representation of woman characters in these feminist rewritings. Feminist rewriting, focusing on issues such as power, gender hierarchy, and sexism, seeks to subvert the sexist roles assigned to women and the patriarchal discourses and practices frequently circulating in texts like tales from a critical standpoint. In brief, this study aims to evaluate how tales can become a site of feminist struggle, how anti-women discourses can be transformed through rewritten tales, and how such rewritings can produce social impacts. In this context, the article first focuses on the subject of feminist rewriting and then critically analyzes the classic Cinderella tale. Following this, the rewritten forms of this tale are examined to explore the possibilities of feminist rewriting.
Masallar, egemen kültürün unsurlarına göre şekillenen ve bulunduğu kültürün izlerini taşıyan edebi metinlerdir. Masal metinlerinde kadın karakterlere biçilen roller kimi zaman iyiliği simgeleyen toplumsal cinsiyet rollerine uygun ideal bir kadın tipi iken; kimi zaman da kötülüğü simgeleyen cadı imajıyla resmedilir. Kurtarıcı rolüyle erkekler ise, etkin ve bağımsız bir öznedir. Böylece masallarda ötekileştirilen konumu ile kadın karakterlerin temsili; masalların popüler kültür içine yerleşerek kültürden kültüre, ülkeden ülkeye aktarılmasıyla yeniden üretilir. Grimm Masalları’ndan klasik ‘Külkedisi’ masalında kadın karakterlere biçilen geleneksel roller, erkek egemen bakış açısını yansıtır. Bu masalın yeniden yazılan formlarında ise, klasik masallarda kadınlara dikte edilen rollerden farklı bir kadın temsilinin sunulması hedeflenmiştir. Bu çerçevede, feminist yeniden yazımın örnekleri olan bu masallarda kadın karakterlerin temsili konusunda önemli değişiklikler olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Feminist yeniden yazım iktidar, toplumsal cinsiyet hiyerarşisi, cinsiyetçilik gibi konuları odağa alarak; eleştirel bir mesafe ile masallar gibi sıklıkla dolaşıma giren metinlerde kadınlara biçilen cinsiyetçi rolleri ve ataerkil söylem ve pratikleri alt üst etmeyi hedefler. Kısaca bu çalışmanın amacı; masalların feminist mücadelenin alanlarından birini oluşturduğu, yeniden yazılan masallar ile kadın karşıtı söylemlerin dönüştürülebileceği ve masalların yeniden yazımı ile nasıl toplumsal etkiler üretebileceğini değerlendirmektir. Bu kapsamda, makalede öncelikle feminist yeniden yazım konusu üzerinde durulmuş ve ardından klasik Külkedisi masalı eleştirel bir mesafeden analiz edilmiştir. Daha sonra ise, bu masalın yeniden yazılmış formları incelenerek feminist yeniden yazımın imkânları ele alınmıştır.

The journal is published twice a year, in June and December. No fees are charged for publications, no fees are paid to the editors, the editorial board and the referees and their owners. It is accepted that the authors who submit articles to the contact address for publication in the journal should read and acknowledge this copyright statement.
“Journal of Social and Cultural Studies” is open to the work of all researchers who have the title “PhD” or “PhD student”. It is not obligatory that the second, third and fourth authors of the article have the title “PhD” or “PhD student”. An article should has been written by max. four authors. The articles prepared in accordance with the writing rules are presented to the referee for review after they have passed the editorial review. The reviewer may ask for a correction to the article, directly refuse or accept it. For the articles declined as a result of the reviewer evaluation, a second reviewer may be requested by the author, If the editors’ board finds that the request is appropriate, the article will be sent to a second reviewer.
The articles previously published in another publication or in the evaluation stage by another publication are not accepted into “Journal of Social and Cultural Studies” publication process. All the ethical and legal responsibilities related to the published articles belong to the authors.
