The present study aimed to examine visual landscape and soundscape in Cumhuriyet Square and its immediate surroundings in Kayseri city center. The study has been conducted along the Kayseri Metropolitan Municipality, Forum Shopping Center, Bürüngüz Mosque, and Hunat Hatun Tram line. Visual landscape has been examined using figure-ground matching. Figure, foreground images, and symbolic images has been addressed, while ground has been addressed with background images. Soundscape has been examined using background sounds, foreground sounds, and symbolic sounds. According to the findings of the research, it is possible to say that the visual landscape and soundscape in the spaces located in Cumhuriyet Square and its immediate surroundings overlap with each other. Measurements show that acoustic comfort levels of 70–72 dBA decrease in high-traffic areas, while it is more balanced at 59–61 dBA in open-green spaces. In this context, suggestions for improving urban acoustic comfort in Cumhuriyet Square and its immediate surroundings has been included.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Kayseri kent merkezindeki Cumhuriyet Meydanı ve yakın çevresinde görsel ve işitsel peyzajın incelenmesidir. Çalışma, Kayseri Büyükşehir Belediyesi, Forum Alışveriş Merkezi, Bürüngüz Cami ve Hunat Hatun Tramvay hattı boyunca yürütülmüştür. Görsel peyzaj, görsel algıda belirleyici olan şekil-zemin eşleştirmesi ile incelenmiştir. Şekil, ön plan görüntüleri ve sembol görüntüleri oluştururken zemin ise arka plan görüntüleri olarak ele alınmıştır. İşitsel peyzaj ise işitsel algıyı oluşturan arka plan sesleri, ön plan sesleri ve sembol sesler olarak incelenmiştir. Araştırmanın bulgularına göre Cumhuriyet Meydanı ve yakın çevresinde yer alan mekânlardaki görsel ve işitsel peyzaj birbiriyle örtüşmektedir. Bu bağlamda mekânın algılanmasında görsel ve işitsel peyzajın eş zamanlı olarak etkili olduğunu söylemek mümkündür. Ölçümler, yoğun trafik alanlarında 70–72 dBA düzeyinde olup akustik konforu azalttığını; açık-yeşil alanlarda 59–61 dBA ile daha dengeli olduğunu göstermektedir. Görsel ve işitsel peyzajın incelenmesi sonucunda Cumhuriyet Meydanı ve yakın çevresinde kentsel akustik konforun iyileştirilmesi için önerilere yer verilmiştir.
