2004 yılında yayımlanan Tren romanı, psikiyatrist yazar Engin Geçtan tarafından postmodern bir anlayışla kaleme alınmıştır. Mesleki bilgi ve tecrübeleri Geçtan’ın gözlem yeteneğini geliştirmiş, insana ve mekâna bakış açısını etkilemiştir. Kuantum fiziğine ilgi duyan yazarın, roman kurgusunu yeni bir zaman ve mekân algılayışı doğrultusunda düzenlediği görülür. Romanda geçmiş, şimdi ve gelecek zaman bir arada kullanılmaktadır. Farklı zaman dilimlerinden gelen yolcuları, mekânlar arası dolaştıran gerçeküstü tren yolculuğu, insanlık tarihini gözler önüne serer. Fantastik ve polisiye ögelerle desteklenen roman kurgusunda ana mekân olarak seçilen tren, hayatı sembolize eden hareketli bir metafordur. Türk romanında sıklıkla görülen tren olgusunu farklı bir gerçeklik düzlemine taşıyan Tren romanında, somut mekânların yanı sıra düşsel, metafizik ve ütopik mekân tasarımları yer alır. Romanda fiziki ve kültürel değişimleri yansıtan mekânlar, karakter çözümlemeleri için ipucu niteliğindedir. Makalenin ilk bölümünde, simgesel bir mekân olan trenin, karakterler ve olay üzerindeki etkisi irdelenecektir. İkinci bölümde, karakterlerin trene binmeden önce yaşadıkları mekânlardaki konumları değerlendirilecektir. Üçüncü bölümde, gerçek dışı mekânlar üzerinden anlatılmak istenen doğa-uygarlık çatışmasının izleri aranacaktır. Çalışmanın son bölümünde, yazarın mekânları betimlerken kullandığı sinematografik ögeler tespit edilecektir. Tren romanında mekân unsurunun etkisini inceleyen bu makale ile Türk edebiyatı sahasında hazırlanan roman incelemelerine katkı sağlamak amaçlanmaktadır. Postmodern kurgunun yarattığı karmaşık ilişkilerin çözümlenmesinde mekân unsurun önemine dikkat çeken makale, edebiyat ve psikoloji alanlarını birleştiren disiplinlerarası bir çalışmadır. Betimsel yöntem kullanılarak mekânla ilgili verilerin incelendiği makalede mekânın insanın şekillenmesindeki rolü araştırılmaktadır.
The novel Train, published in 2004, was written by psychiatrist and writer Engin Geçtan with a postmodern understanding. His professional knowledge and experience improved Geçtan’s observation ability and influenced his perspective on people and space. It is seen that the author, who is interested in quantum physics, arranges his novel fiction in line with a new perception of time and space. In the novel, past, present and future tense are used together. The surreal train journey, which takes passengers from different time periods between places, reveals the history of humanity. The train, which is chosen as the main place in the novel fiction supported by fantastic and detective elements, is a moving metaphor that symbolizes life. In the novel Train, which carries the train phenomenon often seen in the Turkish novel to a different reality plane, imaginary, metaphysical and utopian space designs take place as well as concrete spaces. The spaces reflecting the physical and cultural changes in the novel serve as clues for character analysis. In the first part of the article, the effect of the train, which is a symbolic place, on the characters and the event will be examined. In the second part, the positions of the characters in the places where they live before boarding the train will be evaluated. In the third part, traces of the nature-civilization conflict that is wanted to be told through unreal places will be sought. In the last part of the study, the cinematographic elements used by the author while depicting the spaces will be identified. With this article, it is aimed to contribute to the novel investigations prepared in the field of Turkish literature by revealing the effect of the spatial element in the novel Train. The article, which draws attention to the importance of the spatial element in the analysis of the complex relationships created by postmodern fiction, is an interdisciplinary study that combines the fields of literature and psychology. In the article where data about space are examined using the descriptive method, the role of space in the shaping of people is investigated.
