As a result of the continuous advances in science and technology, sub-branches have emerged that use technological devices and methods more frequently and efficiently in the field of biology as well as in every basic science. Biotechnology is one of them. As it is known, biology is the science of life and many innovations have been discovered and invented based on a wide range of biological materials, from health sciences to food or agriculture industry, with the help of biotechnology, primarily for human benefit. According to some scientists, biotechnology is seen as the most important science subject of the next century. And yet, in addition to the value given to the investments and researches made in the field of science in question, the quality of education given to students at different education levels is also important. The aim of our current revision study is to evaluate the importance given to biotechnology education in our country and to analyze the knowledge and attitudes of students at different education levels about biotechnology in general.
Bilim ve teknolojideki sürekli görülen ilerlemeler sonucunda her temel bilimde olduğu gibi biyoloji alanında da uygulamaya yönelik, teknolojik cihaz ve metodları daha sık ve verimli kullanan alt bilim dalları ortaya çıkmıştır. Biyoteknoloji’de bunlardan biridir. Bilindiği üzere biyoloji canlı bilimidir ve başta insan faydasına yönelik olarak biyoteknoloji yardımıyla sağlık bilimlerinden gıda veya ziraat endüstirisine kadar çok geniş yelpazede biyolojik materyaller temel alınarak pek çok yenilik keşfedilmiş ve icat edilmiştir. Kimi bilim insanlarına göre biyoteknoloji gelecek yüzyılın en önemli bilim konusu olarak görülmektedir. Hal böyleyken söz konusu bilim alanına yönelik yapılan yatırımlar ve araştırmalara verilen değerin yanında, farklı eğitim düzeylerindeki öğrencilere bu konuda verilen eğitim kalitesi de önemlidir. Mevcut revizyon çalışmamızın da amacı bu doğrultuda ülkemizde biyoteknoloji eğitimine verilen önemi değerlendirmek ve genel olarak farklı eğitim düzeylerindeki öğrencilerin biyoteknoloji hakkındaki bilgi ve tutumlarını analiz etmektir.
