Dijital dünyada büyük paya sahip olan sosyal medya hayatımızı kolaylaştırırken aynı zamanda bazı sorunları da beraberinde getirmektedir. Sosyal medya bağımlılığı bu sorunlardan biridir. Sosyal medya bağımlılığının farkında olmak ve bununla başa çıkabilmek için alandaki çalışmaların ne derece değerli olduğunun farkına varılması hatta çalışmaların sayılarının artırılması önemli görülmektedir. Buradan hareketle gerçekleştirilen mevcut çalışmanın temel amacı, lise öğrencilerinin sosyal medya bağımlılık düzeylerinin incelenmesidir. Çalışmada Nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden tarama deseni kullanılmıştır. Çalışmaya 2022-2023 eğitim öğretim yılında İç Anadolu Bölgesinde bir ilde bulunan 511 lise öğrencisi katılmıştır. Öğrencilerin sosyal medya bağımlılıklarını incelemek için veri toplama aracı olarak, dokuz sorudan oluşan “Kişisel Bilgi Formu” ve “Bergen Sosyal Medya Bağımlılık Ölçeği” kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler SPSS programı kullanılarak uygun istatistiksel tekniklerle analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmanın sonucuna göre katılımcıların cinsiyetlerine, sınıf düzeylerine, anne ve baba eğitim durumlarına göre sosyal medya bağımlılık düzeylerine göre anlamlı bir fark görülmemiştir. Katılımcıların evlerinde bulunan internetin sınırsız, sınırlı (kotalı) ve internetin olmama durumlarına ve katılımcıların sosyal medyada geçirdikleri zaman değişkenlerine göre ise sosyal medya bağımlılıklarında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark saptanmıştır. Aynı zamanda katılımcıların sosyal medyada geçirdikleri zamanın sosyal medya bağımlılıklarını etkilediği görülmüştür. Araştırma sonucuna göre sosyal medyada geçirilen zamanın öğrenciler adına daha kaliteli hale getirmek için öğrencilere bu konuda eğitimler verilebilir. Sosyal medya kullanımında ilgi çekici sebepler araştırılarak sosyal medyanın daha eğitici kullanılması için adımlar atılması gibi öneriler getirilebilir.
Social media takes a large space in the digital World. It eases the life while it leads to some problems at the same time as well. Social media addiction is one of these problems. It seems essential that it is important to recognize the significance of studies in the literature and even to increase the number of studies in order to be able to be aware of social media addiction and to cope up with it. The aim of the current study which is implemented by basing on this issue is to investigate the level of high school students’ social media addiction. Descriptive method which is one of the quantitive research methods was applied for the study. 511 high school students from a city in the Central Anatolia Region in Turkey in 2022-2023 education year included in the study. The “Personal Information Form” consisting of nine questions and the “Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale” were used as data collection tools to examine students' social media addictions. The obtained data were analyzed with appropriate statistical techniques using the SPSS program. According to the results of the study, there was no significant difference according to the participants' gender, class level, educational status of parents and social media addiction levels. A statistically significant difference in social media addiction was found according to the variable of the statu of unlimited, limited (quota) and non-availability of the Internet which is used in participants’ houses and the variable of the time spent on social media by the participants. It is seen that the time which is spent in the social media by participants affects the social media addiction at the same time. According to the result of the research, educational trainings about this issue can be given to the students in order to class the time spent on social media up on behalf of students. Interesting reasons for using social media can be investigated and suggestions such as taking steps to use social media more educatively can be made.
