The aim of this study is to elicit the current situation and determine future tendencies about
history education in Turkey by reviewing thesis. Document analysis, one of the methods of
qualitative methodology, was used in the study. As documents, in total 368 theses, registered
in Turkish Council of Higher Education Thesis Database were explored. Collected data were
analyzed with content analysis. The results showed that the majority of theses were at master
level, the numbers of publication years of theses were increased after 2000 and the majority
of them were prepared in established universities, founded in the big cities of Turkey. In the
context of subject, institutional studies, historians and historiography, textbooks, teachinglearning
theory and approaches, instructional technology and materials and out of school
history education were among the most studies topics. In the context of method, historical and
descriptive methods were among the most studies methods.
