Abstract

Kamusal alanlar; kent dokusunda yer alan, insanların bir araya gelip özgürce hareket ettikleri, günlük faaliyetlerini gerçekleştirdikleri, sosyalleştikleri mekanlardır. Kamusal alanlar, kentle ilgili fiziksel veriler sundukları gibi toplumun sosyal dokusu hakkında da bilgi vermektedir. Kamusal alandaki fiziksel özellikler toplumun yaşam kalitesinde etkilidir ve kamusal alanlarda mekanda kalite kavramı ön plana çıkmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, mekan kalitesinin ölçülmesi için İstanbul’un ilk yerleşim yerlerinden olan, hem morfolojik, hem tarihsel hem de mimari olarak zengin bir geçmişe sahip Tarihi Yarımada Eminönü bölgesindeki Mercan mahallesi incelenmiştir. Çalışmada; kamusal alanlardaki mekansal kalite belirli veriler ve anket çalışmaları ile araştırılmıştır. Mercan mahallesinin tarihçesi, konumu, önemli yapıları, fiziksel ve işlevsel özellikleri araştırılmış, elde edilen veriler yapılan anket sonuçları ile birleştirilerek bölgenin mekan kalitesi incelenmiştir.

Place Quality in the Use of Public Spaces; Eminönü Mercan Neighborhood

Abstract

Public spaces are places located in the urban fabric and places where people come together, move freely, perform
daily activities and socialize. Public spaces give information about physical characteristics of the city as well as the
social texture of the society. The physical characteristics of the public spaces are influential in the quality of life of
the community and the concept of the quality of the space is at the forefront in public spaces.
In the study, the Mercan neighborhood is chosen, which is located in the Historical Peninsula Eminönü, to measure
the quality of the space. Eminönü is one of the earliest residential places of Istanbul and has morphologically,
historically and architecturally history.
In the study; spatial quality in public spaces has been researched with specific data and a public survey. The history,
location, important structures, physical and functional characteristics of the Mercan area are investigated and the
obtained data are associated with the survey results to investigate the space quality of the region.
