<p>Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between duration of breast milk intake and body mass index (BMI) in children aged 2-6.Materials and Methods: The study was conducted on 131 children aged 2-6 years. A questionnaire, consisting of questions regarding the general characteristics of the child (gender, age, drug/ nutritional supplement and disease history) and duration of breast milk intake in the past, was conducted on the parents. The height and body weight values of the children were obtained from the statements of their parents. The data were analyzed by SPSS Statistical program (version 22).Results: Among the 131 children whose age groups were between 24-72 months, 46.6% were boys and 53.4% were girls. Of the children 3.8% did not receive breast milk at all, 19.1% received for less than 6 months and 11.5% for the first 6 months. 47.3% of the children received breast milk between 6-24 months. On the other hand, 18.3% received breast milk for longer than 24 months. When the BMI status of the children was examined; 72.5% were found to be normal, 17.6% were overweight and 9.9% were obese. In this study, there were no children in the underweight category. The relationship between the duration of breast milk intake and BMI values of children was found to be statistically insignificant (p=0.376&amp;gt;0.05). Of the children 23.1% who received breast milk for less than 6 months, 7.7% who received breast milk for the first 6 months, 38.4% who received breast milk between 6-24 months and 30.8% who received breast milk for longer than 24 months, were found to be obese. Conclusion: Relationship between the duration of breast milk intake and BMI in children aged 2-6 were not found to be statistically significant.</p></trans-abstract>

Çocukların %3.8’i anne sütü almamış, %19.1’i 6 aydan az, %11.5’i 6 ay, %47.3’ü 6-24 ay, %18.3’ü 24 aydan daha uzun süre anne sütü ile beslenmiştir. Çocukların BKİ durumları incelendiğinde; %72.5’i normal, %17.6’sı şişman, %9.9’u obezdir.
