This study aims to evaluate the financial performance of the airline transportation sector in Turkey for the 14-year period between 2009 and 2022 using the LOPCOW-based CRADIS method, which is a Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) method. This method combination, which is used for the first time in the literature, offers an innovative and comprehensive approach for financial performance analysis. The study is based on the aggregated balance sheet data published by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) and financial ratios are analyzed under four main categories (liquidity, turnover, financial structure and profitability). In the study, financial performance was ranked by years and the best and worst performing years were identified. While 2022 was determined as the best performance year as the effects of the pandemic subsided, 2020 showed the worst performance in the crisis environment created by COVID-19. These results reveal the sensitivity of the airline sector to economic shocks and its dynamics in the recovery process. The analysis shows that liquidity and financial structure are critical factors in the sector, and the impact of these factors on performance is more significant than profitability ratios. This study develops an innovative model for assessing the financial performance of the airline transportation sector by introducing a combination of methods that have not been used before in the literature. In addition to being an important guide for industry managers, investors and policy makers, the findings of the study bring a new approach to financial performance analysis to the literature. In this respect, the study has the potential to serve as a reference point for financial analysis of the airline sector both in Turkey and internationally.

Bu çalışma, Türkiye'deki havayolu taşımacılığı sektörünün finansal performansını 2009-2022 yılları arasındaki 14 yıllık dönem için Çok Kriterli Karar Verme (ÇKKV) yöntemlerinden LOPCOW temelli CRADIS yöntemiyle değerlendirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Literatürde ilk kez kullanılan bu yöntem kombinasyonu, finansal performans analizi için yenilikçi ve kapsamlı bir yaklaşım sunmaktadır. Araştırmada, Türkiye Cumhuriyet Merkez Bankası (TCMB) tarafından yayımlanan toplulaştırılmış bilanço verileri temel alınmış ve finansal oranlar dört ana kategori (likidite, devir hızı, finansal yapı ve kârlılık) altında incelenmiştir. Çalışmada, yıllar bazında finansal performans sıralaması yapılmış, en iyi ve en kötü performans sergileyen yıllar tespit edilmiştir. 2022 yılı, pandeminin etkilerinin azalmasıyla en iyi performans yılı olarak belirlenirken, 2020 yılı COVID-19’un yarattığı kriz ortamında en kötü performansı göstermiştir. Bu sonuçlar, havayolu sektörünün ekonomik şoklara duyarlılığını ve toparlanma sürecindeki dinamiklerini ortaya koymaktadır. Analizler, sektörde likidite ve finansal yapının kritik unsurlar olduğunu, bu unsurların performans üzerindeki etkisinin kârlılık oranlarından daha belirgin olduğunu göstermektedir. Bu çalışma, literatürde daha önce kullanılmamış bir yöntem kombinasyonu sunarak, havayolu taşımacılığı sektörünün finansal performansını değerlendirmek için yenilikçi bir model geliştirmiştir. Araştırma bulguları, sektör yöneticileri, yatırımcılar ve politika yapıcılar için önemli bir rehber olmanın yanı sıra, literatüre finansal performans analizine yönelik yeni bir yaklaşım kazandırmaktadır. Bu yönüyle çalışma hem Türkiye’de hem de uluslararası düzeyde havayolu sektörüne ilişkin finansal analizler için bir referans noktası oluşturma potansiyeline sahiptir.
