Beliren Yetişkinlerin Kariyer Planları, Yaşadıkları Kariyer Kararsızlıkları ve Bununla Baş Etme Stratejileri

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı; beliren yetişkinlik dönemindeki bireylerin kariyer
planlarının neler olduğunu, hangi konularda kariyer kararsızlığı yaşadıklarını
ve bununla nasıl baş ettiklerini incelemektir. Araştırmaya toplam 85 öğrenci
katılmıştır. Katılımcıların 77’si dördüncü, yedisi ise üçüncü sınıf
öğrencisidir. Nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden olgu bilim deseni kullanılarak
yapılan çalışmada açık uçlu sorularla veri toplanmıştır. Veriler içerik analizi
aracılığı ile değerlendirilmiştir. Katılımcıların kariyer planlarının başında
atanmanın geldiği, bunu yüksek lisans yapma, özel kurumda çalışma ve kendi iş
yeri açmanın izlediği anlaşılmıştır. Kariyer kararsızlığı yaşanan konuların
başında seçenekler arasında ikilem yaşamak gelmekte onu atanamamaları halinde
ne yapacaklarını bilememeleri, öğretmenliğin kendilerine ve kariyer planlarına
uygunluğuna ilişkin kararsızlıkları izlemektedir. Katılımcıların kariyer
kararsızlığı ile baş etmede en fazla hazırlık yapma, bilgi araştırma ve kendini
yönetme gibi etkili yolları kullandıkları, ayrıca tanıdıklara ya da uzmanlara
danışma, bilgi ve duygu desteği aramayı denedikleri anlaşılmaktadır. Bulgular
alan yazın ışığında tartışılmış ve öneriler sunulmuştur.

Career Plans, Career Indecision and Strategies for Coping with Career Indecision among Emerging Adults

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the career
plans, the level of career indecision and the strategies of career indecision
of the emerging adults. A total of 85 students enrolled in current study. 77 of
the participants were in their final year of university and seven of the
participants were third grade students. Data were collected with open-ended
questions in current study by using phenomenological method. The qualitative data
were evaluated through content analysis. When
the participants' statements about their career plans are examined, the
participants aim to be appointed as the first, secondly to have a master's
degree, and thirdly to work in a private institution and finally to hang out their
shingle. Emerging adults experience career indecision since they remain between
the dilemma of career alternatives, do not know what to do in case they cannot
be assigned and interrogate the suitability of the teaching profession for
themselves. Participants use productive coping strategies such as information
seeking, self-reliance/regulation and accommodation. In addition, they use the
strategies of instrumental help-seeking and emotional help-seeking, getting
support in consultation with others. The findings were discussed in light of
the literature and suggestions were presented.
