Artificial Intelligence (AI) Usage Policy

This policy aims to define the ethical, scientific, and methodological standards regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Mediterranean Women’s Studies and Gender (KTC). The primary objective of this policy is to ensure that AI is used in academic writing processes in a responsible, transparent, and ethical manner, while safeguarding the principles of academic integrity, scientific reliability, impartiality, and data confidentiality. The scope, use cases, and technical capabilities of AI tools will be regularly reviewed and updated in line with technological developments. This policy is fully aligned with the ethical principles and publication policies of KTC. It adopts the “Ethical Guiding Principles on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence” issued by the Council of Higher Education of Türkiye (YÖK).

1. Accepted Uses of Artificial Intelligence

AI tools may be used only for the following purposes: Language editing, grammar, and spelling checks, ensuring terminological and conceptual consistency, formal and structural editing, and improving clarity and stylistic coherence.

The use of AI tools for: Generating academic content, developing theoretical or empirical arguments, conducting data analysis, producing original scientific findings or conclusions is not permitted.

If AI tools are used at any stage of manuscript preparation, this must be clearly disclosed in the Ethics Statement section.

2. Use of AI in Editorial and Peer Review Processes

The Journal of Mediterranean Women’s Studies and Gender (KTC) commits not to using AI tools at any stage of the editorial, peer review, or decision-making processes. Peer review reports, editorial evaluations, and publication decisions are conducted solely based on human expertise and scholarly judgment.

3. Core Principles Governing AI Use

Transparency and Accountability:
Authors must clearly disclose when, how, and for what purpose AI tools were used.

Accuracy:
Authors are responsible for verifying the accuracy of all AI-assisted content and ensuring that it is supported by reliable academic sources.

Responsibility:
All scientific and ethical responsibility for AI-assisted outputs rests entirely with the author.

Impartiality:
Authors must declare any conflicts of interest and take measures to minimize potential biases inherent in AI systems.

Confidentiality and Data Security:
The protection of personal data and data security is paramount. AI tools must be used in compliance with applicable data protection regulations and ethical standards.

Citation and Referencing:
AI tools cannot be cited as sources, references, or entries in bibliographies. AI usage may only be declared in the Ethics Statement.

4. Implementation and Sanctions

Manuscripts found to violate this policy will not be considered for review or may be rejected at any stage of the evaluation process. In cases of misleading, incomplete, or false disclosure regarding AI use, sanctions such as manuscript withdrawal and temporary or permanent publication bans may be imposed. All procedures are conducted in accordance with the principles of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics).
