                                                                                                                        <abstract><p>Hurma (Phoenix dactylifera), çok eski çağlardan beri insanlar tarafından kullanılan bir besin kaynağı, inşaat malzemesi ve geleneksel halk ilacıdır. Bu bitkinin ekonomik değerinin yanında sağlık çalışanları tarafından besin kaynağı ve sağlıkla ilgili yönlerinin bilinmesi önemlidir. Hurmanın besin kaynağı ve sağlık açısından incelenmesi amacıyla bir literatür derlemesi yapıldı. PubMed’de yayınlanmış makaleler ve hurmayla ilgili basılı kitaplardan yararlanıldı. Özellikle yaş hurma besin değeri açısından birçok meyveden üstündür. Glisemik endeksinin nispeten düşük olması ve lif içeriğinin yüksek olması gibi nedenlerle sağlık açısından da yararlıdır. Hurmanın antioksidan ve doğum sonrası kanamayı azaltıcı yönlerini ortaya koyan deneysel araştırmalar da yapılmıştır. Hurma dikenlerinin batmasına bağlı yaralanmalar da bildirilmiştir. Sonuç olarak hurma bitkisi ve meyvesinin sağlıklı bir besin kaynağı olduğu, tıbbi açılardan halk arasında kullanılan yönlerinin test edilmesi için çalışmaların gerektiği görülmektedir</p></abstract>
