                                                                                                <abstract><p>Bu araştırmanın temel amacı, üniversite seviyesinde İngilizce Hazırlık programı girişinde uygulanan İngilizce Yeterlik ve Seviye Belirleme Testlerine dair puanların, hazırlık programı boyunca öğrencilerin eğitim gördüğü A1, A2, B1 ve B2 seviye sınıflarında göstermiş olduğu başarıyı ne derece yordadığını belirlemektir. 2013-2014, 2014-2015, 2015-2016 ve 2016-2017 akademik yılları başlangıcında uygulanan Yeterlik ve Seviye Belirleme Testinden elde edilen puanlar ile öğrencilerin kur bazında öğrenim gördükleri seviye sınıflarında başarısını gösteren puanlar araştırmanın verilerini oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma kapsamında test puanlarına dair betimsel istatistikler ile güvenirlik katsayısı hesaplanmış, madde analizi yapılarak test maddelerine dair güçlük ve ayırt edicilik katsayıları belirlenmiş ve son olarak da testlerden elde edilen puanların yordayıcılık geçerliği hesaplanmıştır. Analizler sonucunda, test puanlarına ait güvenirliğin beklenen düzeyin altında olduğu ve testlerin çoğunluğunda ayırt edici madde sayısının az olduğuna ulaşılmıştır. Test puanlarının seviye sınıflarında elde edilen puanları yordama gücü incelendiğinde ise, test puanlarının A1 seviyesinde elde edilen puanları manidar bir şekilde yordadığı, fakat yordayıcılık gücünün düşük olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır. Test sonuçlarının tek başına İngilizce başarısını yordamakta yetersiz olduğu, diğer etkenlerin de araştırılması gerekliliği dikkate alınmalıdır.</p></abstract>
                                                                                                                                    <trans-abstract xml:lang="en">
                            <p>The main aim of this research is to investigate the predictive power of English Proficiency and Placement Tests applied at the beginning of each academic year on the scores obtained at the end of each level class A1, A2, B1, and B2 during English Preparatory program. The scores obtained in English Proficiency and Placement Tests in the academic years 2013-2014, 2014-2015, 2015-2016, and 2016-2017 respectively and the scores obtained in each level class as an indication of students’ performance in English are included in the research data.  In the analysis of the data, initially, descriptive analyses were conducted, and internal consistency reliability of test scores was calculated. As the second phase of the analyses, item difficulty and discrimination coefficients were determined. Finally, the relationship between test scores and scores obtained in each level class was compared through regression analyses. According to findings of the research, it is found that the reliability coefficients of test scores were lower than expected, and the number of discriminant items in most tests was low. In addition, it was found that English Proficiency and Placement Test scores were significant predictors of the scores obtained in mostly A1 level; however, the predictive power of test scores was low. It is concluded that the predictive validity of the test scores are significantly low, and they cannot be considered as a sole predictor of English performance in preparatory program, which necessitates more research to be conducted on the other factors affecting achievement in English language.</p></trans-abstract>
