Removal of Impurities from Kütahya-Alayunt Diatomite Ore by Hydrocyclone and Calcination

Abstract

Interest on diatomite has recently increased and it has been used in research work with the purpose
of developing technological products. Kütahya-Alayunt diatomite deposit was a formerly mined out
important deposit. In this study, hydrocyclone and calcination methods were examined to remove the
impurities, such as quartz, sand and clay, in the Kütahya-Alayunt diatomite. 84,42% SiO2
grade of Kütahya-Alayunt diatomite ore was increased to 90.15% SiO2 by hydrocyclone and after calcination of
this product at 900 oC, 92.84% SiO2
grade was achieved. The diatomite products obtained in the study
were found to be suitable for use in ceramic industry as filtration and filling materials.

Abstract

Özellikle son yıllarda diyatomite olan ilgi artmış ve teknolojik ürün elde etmeye yönelik araştırmalarda
kullanılmaya başlanmıştır. Kütahya-Alayunt diyatomit yatağı daha önceleri işletilmiş önemli bir yatak
konumundadır. Bu çalışmada, cevherde bulunan kuvars, kum ve kil gibi safsızlıkların uzaklaştırılması
amacıyla hidrosiklon ve kalsinasyon yöntemleri denenmiştir. %84,42 SiO2 tenörlü Kütahya-Alayunt
diyatomit cevheri hidrosiklon yöntemiyle %90,15 SiO2 tenörüne, bu ürünün 900 oC’de kalsinasyonu
sonucunda da %92,84 SiO2 tenörüne yükseltilebilmektedir. Ürünler isteğe bağlı olarak filtrasyon,
seramik ve dolgu amaçlı olarak kullanılabilecek özelliklerdedir
