Assessment of Uncertainty Associated with Lignite Quality-Tonnage Curves: A Case Study

Abstract

An important problem in economic and technical assessment of lignite reserves is estimation of lignite
quality-reserve curves and assessment of their uncertainty. This article addresses a case study carried
out in this direction in the upper seam of the Kalburcayiri lignite field (Kangal-Sivas), in which lignite
quality -reserve curves are estimated by geostatistical simulation. For this purpose, the upper seam is
divided into 180 panels with size of 200m x 200m and the mean quality of each panel is simulated by
conditional sequential Gaussian simulation, considering calorific value, ash yield and sulphur content
as quality variables. To assess uncertainty, one hundred realizations of the upper seam are generated
for every quality variable and quality-reserve curves are estimated over each realization. Uncertainty is
measured by standard deviation and 95% confidence interval of the sampling distribution obtained.

Abstract

Linyit rezervlerinin ekonomik ve teknik değerlendirmesinde önemli bir problem linyit kalitesi-rezerv
eğrilerinin kestirimi ve bu kestirimlere ilişkin belirsizliğin değerlendirilmesidir. Bu yazı, Kalburçayırı
(Kangal-Sivas) linyit sahası üst damarda bu yönde yürütülen örnek bir çalışmayı sunmaktadır.
Çalışmada jeoistatistiksel benzetim tekniği kullanılarak linyit kalitesi-rezerv eğrileri kestirilmiştir. Bu
amaçla üst damar, 200m x 200m boyutlarında 180 adet panoya bölünmüş ve her bir panonun ortalama
kalitesi koşullu ardışık normal benzetim tekniği ile modellenmiştir. Kalite değişkenleri olarak ısıl değer,
kül ve kükürt içeriği dikkate alınmıştır. Belirsizliği değerlendirmek amacıyla üst damar, her bir kalite
değişkeni için yüz kez modellenmiş her bir modelden kalite-rezerv eğrileri kestirilmiştir. Belirsizlik, elde
edilen örneklem dağılımının standart sapması ve %95 güven aralığı ile sayısal olarak ölçülmüştür
