Investigation of the Effect of Cooling Duration on the Breakage Characteristics of Copper Smelter Slags of KBİ Samsun Smelter

Abstract

The aim of the study is to develop an experimental method for comparing autogenous grinding
characteristics of differently cooled slag samples. For this purpose, water quenched samples for
immediate and after 24 and 36 hours cooling duration from flash smelter slags and after 36 hours
cooling from converter slag were prepared. For the determination of impact and abrasion breakage
characteristics, twin pendulum and tumbling drum setups were developed and used, respectively. It
was found that quenching after 24 and 36 hours gave similar grindabilities whereas shock cooling
increased the grindability significantly. Converter slag was the most difficult sample to grind by impact
breaking

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, farklı koşullarda soğutulmuş cürufların otojen öğütme özelliklerinin karşılaştırılabileceği
bir deneysel yöntem geliştirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla, flaş fırın cüruflarından şok soğutma, 24
saat ve 36 saat soğutma sonrası, konverter cürufundan ise 36 saat sonra soğutma sonrası örnekler
hazırlanmıştır. Darbe ve aşınma etkisiyle kırılma karakteristiklerinin belirlenmesi için, sırasıyla ikiz
sarkaç ve tambur düzenekleri geliştirilmiş ve kullanılmıştır. Çalışmalar sonucunda, 24 saat ve 36 saat
sonra soğutmanın benzer öğütme davramına sahip olduğu, şok soğutmanın öğütülebilirliği önemli
ölçüde arttırdığı bulunmuştur. Konverter cürufu ise darbe ile en zor öğütülen örnek olmuştur
