Development of the Ethical Violation Tendency Scale for School Guidance and Psychological Counseling Services

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a valid and reliable scale to measure the tendency of school counselors to engage in ethical violations in the context of school guidance and psychological counseling services. Initially, an item pool was created based on qualitative data, and a 35-item draft scale was developed in line with expert opinions. The scale was administered to 495 school counselors from various regions of Türkiye, and an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) revealed a four-factor structure. The scale explained 57.23% of the total variance, with factor loadings ranging from .44 to .83. The four-factor structure obtained through EFA was further tested using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with data collected from a different sample of 240 school counselors. The CFA results indicated a good model fit (χ²/df = 1.24; RMSEA = .032; SRMR = .05; GFI = .93; AGFI = .91; CFI = .98; NFI = .90). Reliability analyses showed that the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was .83 and the Spearman-Brown coefficient was .77, supporting the internal consistency of the scale. Additionally, independent samples t-tests conducted between the upper and lower 27% groups revealed significant differences for all items (p < .001). These findings demonstrate that the developed scale is a valid, reliable, and applicable instrument for assessing ethical violations in school guidance and psychological counseling services.

Okul Rehberlik ve Psikolojik Danışma Hizmetlerinde Etik İhlal Eğilimi Ölçeği Geliştirme Çalışması

Abstract

Bu araştırmanın amacı, okul psikolojik danışmanlarının rehberlik ve psikolojik danışma hizmetlerini yürütürken hangi düzeyde etik ihlal gerçekleştirdiklerini belirlemeye yönelik geçerli ve güvenilir bir ölçme aracı geliştirmektir. Araştırmada öncelikle nitel verilerden yararlanılarak madde havuzu oluşturulmuş, ardından uzman görüşleri doğrultusunda 35 maddelik bir taslak ölçek hazırlanmıştır. Ölçek Türkiye genelinden 495 okul psikolojik danışmanına uygulanmış ve açımlayıcı faktör analizi (AFA) sonucunda dört faktörlü bir yapı elde edilmiştir. Ölçeğin toplam varyansın %57.23’ünü açıkladığı, faktör yüklerinin ise .44 ile .83 arasında değiştiği belirlenmiştir. AFA sonucunda elde edilen dört faktörlü yapı, farklı bir örneklem grubundan (n=240) elde edilen verilerle doğrulayıcı faktör analizi (DFA) aracılığıyla test edilmiştir. DFA sonuçları, modelin iyi düzeyde uyum gösterdiğini ortaya koymuştur (χ²/sd = 1.24; RMSEA = .032; SRMR = .05; GFI = .93; AGFI = .91; CFI = .98; NFI = .90). Güvenirlik analizleri sonucunda Cronbach Alfa iç tutarlılık katsayısı .83, Spearman-Brown katsayısı .77 olarak hesaplanmış; bu bulgular ölçeğin güvenilirliğini desteklemiştir. Ayrıca alt ve üst %27’lik gruplar arasında tüm maddelerde anlamlı farklılıklar bulunmuştur (p < .001). Elde edilen bulgular, geliştirilen ölçeğin geçerli, güvenilir ve uygulanabilir bir ölçme aracı olduğunu göstermektedir.
