The Ottoman- Russian War between 1877 and 1878 had led to a distortion of the 500- year relationship between the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria. The pos iti on of the Turkish population, who started to /ive in Bulgaria as a minority, gradually deteriorated due to the Bulgarian Governmental practices. Turkish minority was forced to immigrate and, consequently, their population decreased. A lthough. up to the year 1878 Ottoman drama had enjoyed the same development in Bulgaria as well, which was stili an Ottoman territory at that time, the educational, linguistic and artistic rights of the Turkish minority had been obstructed However, against ali those negative conditions, Turkish culture has been kept alive. Turkish folk dramas have existed, up to the present day especially in A levi villages in Deliorman territory with the help of special ceremonies of the A levi people. Some other ceremonies /ike Newroz, Spring Festival, and Harvest Rituals have also been made. This is because Christian communities have almost the same kind of ceremonies- though there are some difef rences. During the reign of some Bulgarian administrators, three Turkish Theatres- though with difef rent purposes, were estab/ished. However, later on they were banned or made have Bulgarian elements.
