It is
noteworthy that the museums in the western countries are organizing art and
cultural events that open the local culture to the world and that certain works
are organized as places where the cultures are kept alive together with exhibitions.
In Turkey, cultural values, but globalization and the work to be evacuated to
strangers value presented to the public under the so-called modernity, the
culture-oriented discussed in various disciplines, this style has not reached
the number of the desired level of practical folklore museum. It is necessary
to increase the numbers at the local scale, which is known as "open-air
folk culture museum" and is taught by living and living with the culture
in its entirety. There are many settlements that
can host these kinds of museums with their historical, geographical and
cultural characteristics. One of these is Erdemli district of Mersin. Erdemli
has a rich potential in terms of its historical monuments, historical sites,
natural and cultural features. In addition, the rich culture of the nomadic
observers, who have maintained the nomadic-nomadic lifestyle as far as the
near-rotation in the district, still maintains its vitality. Considering these features that the city has,
it seems necessary to establish an open air museum in Erdemli. In this study,
firstly the meaning and importance of applied folklore museum was emphasized in
terms of cultural tourism and these developments in the world that have shown
great progress have been examined in our country. Then, the reasons for
establishing the "Erdemli Open Air Museum" were given and information
about the points to be followed during the establishment phase of the museum
was given. Thus, it is aimed to draw attention to the role that cultural
contents open air museums play in the context of promoting local culture,
opening out, and accelerating cultural tourism.
