Abstract

VIRTUAL PARENTING IN THE CONTEXT OF THE REFLECTIONS OF VIRTUAL CULTURE ON THE FAMILY

Abstract

Parents and children living in the virtual age not only benefit from the advantages of this age, but also experience its negativities together. Considering the risks to today's family, we need to carefully evaluate the pros and cons of the opportunities this age offers us. This study is based on literature review. The majority of studies in the literature on virtual parenting focus on how parents can protect their children from information pollution and dangers in the virtual age and on conscious virtual parenting. If either parent lives away from their children for various reasons, it may negatively affect family communication. It is thought that virtual parenting applications to strengthen family ties will contribute to this issue. It has been determined that studies on this subject in the literature are limited. This study focuses on the use of virtual applications in regulating family relationships. It is thought that virtual parenting applications can support the interaction between parents and children, improve their relationships with each other, and create the opportunity to make joint decisions regarding children. Experts are of the opinion that such practices will also be beneficial in ensuring the child's communication with the estranged parent in order to alleviate the negative consequences of the divorce on the child who is separated from one of his parents after the divorce. There are inequalities in having the technology to be used in these types of virtual parenting practices. In addition, it has been observed that parents who have conflicts between them in such practices may have difficulties in drawing boundaries. In order to increase and disseminate such practices, new legal regulations, development activities and raising awareness of parents about such practices are needed.
