THE HADITH AND SUNNAH PERCEPTION OF SHATIBI

Abstract

This article deals with the opinions of Shatibi on the Hadith and sunnah with
deep analyzing. The main target of the study is to fix out the fact that where Shatibi
has been standing in the context of his thought about the hadith and sunnah. It is
well known that Shatibi has examined systematically the theories of maqasid alshariah
in usul al-fiqh. Here, we have tried to find out how he had applied his theory
to the hadiths. It is a significant question that whether he identified the hadith with
sunnah. In addition, Shatibi’s position in the perception of Sunnah along with the
Qur’an is considerable fact. There are also other matters such as whether he has
considered the Habar al-Wahid as a practical source and whether he has reckoned it
as the sunnah.
