Abstract

Ülkenin zenginlik göstergesi olarak kabul edilen
büyüme oranının uluslar ve zamanlar boyunca farklılaşması, iktisatçılardan
tarafından uzun yıllardan beri tartışılmaktadır. Bu kapsamda uluslar ve
zamanlar boyunca görülen farklılaşmanın nedenleri sorgulanmış, pek çok
araştırmacı tarafından etkisi olabilecek belirleyiciler ile açıklanmıştır.
Örneğin geleneksel
büyüme modelleri, büyüme oranlarının ülkeden ülkeye farklılaşmasını her ülkenin
sahip olduğu sermaye birikiminin aynı olmaması ile açıklamaktadır. Yeni büyüme
teorileri ise iktisadi büyümenin belirleyici unsurlarını genişletmiştir.
Özellikle son otuz
yıllık dönemde coğrafi konumun ekonomide kapladığı yer giderek artmaktadır. Dünyada
gelirin coğrafi dağılımı incelendiğinde bazı ülkelerin büyüme mucizeleri, bazı
ülkelerin ise büyüme felaketleri olarak nitelendirilmesi mekânsal etkilerin
önemini de ortaya koymaktadır. Bu çalışmada, teorik yaklaşımlar ve ampirik
çalışmaların incelenmesi sonucunda verisi bulunabilen iktisadi büyümeyi
etkileyen değişkenler ile büyüme modeli tahmin edilmiştir. Daha sonra 2000-2014
yılları arasında 14 OECD ülkesi için iktisadi büyüme farklılıklarının
açıklanmasında mekânsal etkilerin varlığı sınanmıştır.
