                                                                                                <abstract><p>İktisat tarihçileri, on altıncı asrın Avrupa ekonomik ilerlemesini dinsel iç savaşları ve göçleri gözardı ederekaraştıramazlar. On beşinci asrın son on yılına girildiğinde, İspanya’nın Yeni Dünyayı ve Portekiz’in de Doğuyaçıkan deniz yolunu keşfettiğini görürüz. Yeni yolun baharatlar açısından sağladığı yararlar, bir dereceye kadareşitsiz olsa da, tüketicilere ve tüccarlar arasında paylaşılmaktaydı. On altıncı asrın ilginç kentinin, gelişmesinekısmen de olsa uğradıkları dini zulüm nedeniyle İberya’dan Yahudilerin göç edip gelmesine borçlu olan vedinsel çekişmelerin bir sonucu olarak aniden refah kaybına uğrayan Antwerp olduğuna hiç kuşku yoktur. Diğertaraftan uluslar arası bankacılığa kadar uzanan geniş kapsamlı papalık aidat sistemi, ulusçu eğilimlere nedenolmuştur. Ortaçağ Avrupa’sında kilisenin büyük mülk sahibi ve nakit servetlere sahip olması çok önemliekonomik bir gerçektir.</p></abstract>
