Throughout Islamic history, the first lesson in the study of Hadith has generally been the to be followed in learning Hadith, or in other words, the principles concerning the etiquette of both the Hadith student and the Hadith teacher. The fact that the topic of "The Etiquette (Adab) of a Hadith Student" is specifically addressed in fundamental hadith sources, as well as in books on Hadith Methodology, Hadith Terminology, and Hadith Sciences, highlights the importance of this subject for hadith students. There are also independent works written on this subject. The first known independent work on this topic is al-Jami' li-akhlaq al-rawi wa adab al-sami' (The Morality of the Hadith Narrator and the Etiquette of the Person Hearing the Hadith) by al-Khatib al-Baghdadi. These types of works discuss certain principles related to the study of hadith, as well as the moral qualities that a hadith student should possess. The moral qualities a hadith student should have are as important as the methods of learning and teaching hadith. This article will summarize the fundamental Islamic moral qualities that a student of knowledge, and especially a student of Hadith, should possess in the following points: sincerity and seeking God's pleasure, applying what one has learned, respecting one's teacher, being loyal to those who have a right over us, cooperating with those on the path of knowledge, progressing step by step in knowledge, memorizing Hadith, and having a sense of responsibility for scholarly integrity.

İslam Tarihi boyunca Hadis ilimlerinde ilk ders, genellikle hadis öğreniminde uyulması gereken ahlakî ilkeler ya da bir başka ifadeyle Hadis talebesinin ve Hadis üstadının âdabı ile ilgili prensipler olmuştur. Temel hadis kaynaklarında, Hadis Usulü, Hadis Istılahları ve Hadis İlimleri kitaplarında “Hadis Talebesinin Âdâbı” konusuna özellikle yer verilmesi, konunun hadis öğrencisi için önemini ortaya koymaktadır. Bu konuda yazılmış müstakil eserler de bulunmaktadır. Bu konuda bilinen ilk müstakil eser, Hatib el-Bağdadî’nin el-Cami’ li-ahlâkı’r-ravî ve âdabi’s-sami’ (Hadis Ravisinin Ahlâkı ve Hadis İşiten Kimsenin Âdâbı) adlı eseridir. Bu çeşit eserlerde hadis öğrenimi ile ilgili bazı prensipler yanında hadis öğrencisinin sahip olması gereken ahlakî vasıflar üzerinde durulmaktadır. Hadis öğrenme ve öğretme metotları kadar hadis öğrencisinin taşıması gereken ahlakî vasıflar da önemlidir. Makalemizde ilim öğrencisinin ve özellikle Hadis öğrencisinin sahip olması gereken temel İslamî ahlakî vasıflar şu maddeler halinde özetlenecektir: İhlaslı olma ve Allah rızasını gözetme, öğrendiğini uygulama, üstada saygı, üzerimizde hakkı olanlara vefakâr olma, ilim yolunda olanlarla yardımlaşma, ilimde adım adım ilerleme, hadis ezberleme ve ilmî emanet bilincine sahip olma.
