This study was conducted to determine whether reading using the four-pencil technique has an effect on self-esteem, career stress and spiritual sensitivity perceptions of experimental (n=23) and control (n=23) groups consisting of 46 randomly determined people, and the pretest-posttest method was used to evaluate the effect of the intervention. Previously chosen books were read using the four-pencil technique within the specified period with experimental group students between November and December every two weeks (2 hours), and their opinions about the books were evaluated in sessions. No interventions were performed in the control group. SPSS program, descriptive statistics, t and ANOVA tests and Fisher's Exact Test were employed to determine differences between groups. It was concluded reading using the four-pencil technique (pretest score avg.= 2.71/ latest score avg.=2,03) significantly reduced the level of career stress. In addition, it was found that it might be associated with a significant increase in self-esteem (pretest score avg.= 2.83/ posttest score avg.=3.44) and spiritual sensitivity (pretest score avg.= 4.12/posttest score avg.=4,50). The experience of reading can reveal positive effects on self-esteem, career stress and spiritual sensitivity perception of individuals. Reading using the right methods can help to achieve more effective results.

Bu çalışma, dört kalem tekniği ile kitap okumanın benlik saygısı, kariyer stresi ve manevi duyarlık algısı üzerine etkisinin olup olmayacağını belirleyebilmek amacı ile yapılmıştır. Araştırma, rastlantısal olarak belirlenen 46 kişiden oluşan deney (n=23) ve kontrol (n=23) grupları üzerinde yapılmış olup uygulanacak işlemin etkisini değerlendirebilmek için öntest-sontest yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Deney grubundaki öğrencilerle Kasım-Aralık aylarında iki haftada bir (2 saat) şeklinde tasarlanan derslerde daha önceden belirlenen kitaplar, belirlenen süreler içinde dört kalem tekniğine göre okunmuş ve bir araya gelinerek kitap hakkındaki görüşler değerlendirilmiştir. Kontrol grubunda herhangi bir işlem uygulanmamıştır. Elde edilen verilerin analiz edilmesinde SPSS programı ile tanımlayıcı istatistik, T ve ANOVA testleri, gruplar arası farklılıklar için Fisher’s Exact Testi tercih edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda elde edilen bulgulara göre; dört kalem okuma tekniği ile kitap okumanın, kariyer stresini (öntest puan ort.= 2,71/ sontest puan ort.=2,03) anlamlı bir şekilde azalttığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Ayrıca yine dört kalem okuma tekniği ile kitap okumanın, benlik saygısını (öntest puan ort.= 2,83/ sontest puan ort.=3,44) ve manevi duyarlıkları (öntest puan ort.= 4,12/ sontest puan ort.=4,50) anlamlı bir şekilde artırabileceği sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Kitap okuma deneyimi, bireylerin benlik saygısı, kariyer stresi ve manevi duyarlık algısı üzerinde olumlu etkiler ortaya çıkarabilmektedir. Doğru yöntemlerle kitap okumak ise daha etkili sonuçlar alınmasına yardımcı olabilecektir.
