                            <p>Aim: The aim of the current study is to determine normal sagittal diameters ofspinal canal from L1 to L5 level by using Magnetic Resonance Imaging. Knowledge of normal values of vertebral canal is veryimportant for the lumbar region surgeries and the diagnosis of vertebral canalstenosis. Methods: This study was conducted with149 adults (87 males and 62 females) with the mean age of 33.65±6.84 (agedbetween 20-45 years) retrospectively. The spinal canal diameters were measuredon MRI sagittal T2 weighted images. Results:The spinal canal sagittal diameters were found to be 1.65±0.17 cm, 1.65±0.2 cm at L1 level, 1.54±0.15 cm,1.58±0.21 at L2 level, 1.45±0.17 cm, 1.49±0.22 cm at L3 level, 1.43±0.21 cm,1.50±0.29 cm at L4 level and 1.48±0.28 cm, 1.50±0.32 cm at L5 levelrespectively for males and females. There wereno statistically significant differences between genders for spinal canaldiameters in L1 to L5. Conclusions: Toour belief our study results will make a contribution to the literature forlumbar region surgery and be useful for the diagnosis of vertebral canalstenosis by determining normal values.</p></trans-abstract>
                                                                                                                                    <abstract><p>Amaç:Buçalışmanın amacı, manyetik rezonansgörüntüleme yöntemi kullanarak lumbar (L)1- L5 seviyeleri arasında canalisvertebralis sagittal çapının normal ölçülerini belirlemektir. Canalisvertebralis normal değerlerinin bilinmesi lumbar bölge cerrahisinde ve canalisvertebralis darlığının teşhisinde çok önemlidir. Yöntem: Bu çalışmada, retrospektif olarak T2 ağırlıklı MRG kullanılarak,ortalama 33.65±6.84 yaşlarında (20-45 yaş arası) 149 (87 erkek, 62 kadın)yetişkinde canalis vertebralis sagittal çapı ölçüldü. Bulgular: Canalis vertebralis sagittal çapı erkeklerde ve kadınlarda sırası ile L1seviyesinde 1.65±0.17 cm, 1.65±0.2 cm; L2 seviyesinde 1.54±0.15 cm, 1.58±0.21cm, L3 seviyesinde 1.45±0.17 cm, 1.49±0.22 cm; L4 seviyesinde 1.43±0.21 cm,1.50±0.29 cm ve L5 seviyesinde 1.48±0.28 cm, 1.50±0.32 cm olarak bulunmuştur.Cinsiyet bakımından L1 ve L5 seviyeleri arasında canalis vertebralis sagittalçapı açısından istatistiksel anlamlı bir farklılık yoktu. Sonuç: Çalışma sonuçlarımızın canalis vertebralis lumbar bölgesagittal çapına ait normal değerlerinin belirlenmesi ile lumbar bölge cerrahisiiçin literatüre katkı sağlayacağına ve canalis vertebralis darlığınınteşhisinde faydalı olacağına inanmaktayız.</p></abstract>
