Abstract Evaluation of a Case with Tuberculous Pleurisy Tuberculous pleurisy is seen in adolescents and children more often in countries with the high incidence of tuberculosis. In this case report, a seventy seven year old, Hepatitis C virus positive, male patient with pleural effusion was evaluated with respect to microbiological and biochemical parameters. The adenosine deaminase level of pleural fluid was 156 U/L and lymphocytes were dominant in Giemsa stain. No acido-resistant bacilli were found in Ehrlich-Ziehl-Neelsen staining of pleural fluid. Mycobacterial DNA was negative with polymerase chain reaction. While Lowenstein Jensen cultures were negative, in BACTEC Mycobacteria Growth Indicator Tube 960 system, the culture showed positive result in the fourth week and it was identified as Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex. In our country, tuberculous pleurisy is generally seen in adolescents. However, infection was found in this patient with chronic Hepatitis C virus, in advanced age. Thus, it was aimed to present the case report of this patient.
