Yükünü Atmış Bedenler Üzerine

Bu metinde Esra Sarıoğlu’nun 2016’da Çiğdem Çidamlı’nın çevirisiyle Dipnot Yayınları tarafından yayımlanan Yükünü Atmış Bedenler: Türkiye’de Şiddet, Duygular ve Yeni Kadın kitabı incelenmektedir. Sarıoğlu bu çalışmasında Yeni Kadın kavramsallaştırmasıyla Cumhuriyet tarihi boyunca utanç-namus söyleminde yaşanan dönüşümü ele almaktadır. Utanç-namus söyleminin Cumhuriyet tarihi boyunca zayıfladığını öne süren Sarıoğlu, bu iddiasını bir yandan toplumsal ve siyasal atmosfere paralel gelişen yasal düzenlemeleri inceleyerek, diğer yandan neoliberal küreselleşmeyle birlikte büyüyen hizmet ekonomisinin duygusal emek rejiminin beklentileriyle ilişkilendirerek desteklemektedir. Fenomenolojik bir beden yaklaşımı benimseyen yazar bu iki tarihsel gelişme neticesinde “bedeninden mahcubiyet yükünü atmış Yeni Kadın”ın ortaya çıktığını iddia etmektedir. Kitapta ayrıca Sarıoğlu, 2010’lu yıllarda Türkiye’de yaşanan otoriterleşme karşısında Yeni Kadının yürüttüğü “bedensel açıklık siyaseti” adını verdiği mücadelesi temelinde kadınların politik failliğini tartışmaktadır.

This text reviews Esra Sarıoğlu’s book The Body Unburdened: Violence, Emotions, and the New Woman in Turkey, published by Dipnot Publications in 2016 with Çiğdem Çidamlı’s translation. In this study, Sarıoğlu addresses the transformation of the shame-honor discourse throughout Republican history through her conceptualization of the "New Woman." Arguing that the shame-honor discourse has weakened throughout the history of the Republic, Sarıoğlu supports this claim by examining legal regulations that developed in parallel with the social and political atmosphere on one hand, and by linking it to the expectations of the emotional labor regime of the service economy, which grew alongside neoliberal globalization, on the other. Adopting a phenomenological body approach, the author asserts that as a result of these two historical developments, the "New Woman who has cast off the burden of shame from her body" has emerged. Throughout the book, Sarıoğlu discusses women's political agency based on the struggle of the New Woman against the authoritarianization experienced in Türkiye during the 2010s, which she terms the "politics of bodily openness."
