Despite the increasing export volume in Turkey, foreign dependency problem remains serious. High use of imported inputs, especially in sectors that create added value, caused important problems primarily the current account deficit in the economy. In this study, it is aimed to explain the current foreign dependency problem in Turkey with the sectors that are subject to intra-industry trade. In this direction, firstly, with the help of Turkstat data-base, the intra-industry trade levels of sectors were calculated by using the Grubel-Lloyd index and 7 main sectors with the highest share were determined. These sectors are: Agriculture-hunting and related services, rubber and plastic products, base metals, fabricated metal products (except machines and equipment), machines and equipments not classified somewhere else, motor land vehicles (trailers and semi-trailers), furniture and other manifactured goods. Leontief input-output analysis was performed by using the input-output flow table of Turkstat in 2012 in order to show the foreign dependency status of determinated sectors. As a result of the analysis, it is determined that the manufacturing industry sectors with high levels of intra-industry trade realize their production with the use of a considerably amount of imported inputs. Unlike the others, the forward link effect of the base metal industry sector show that it provides input use to other sectors.
