Medeniyet değiştirme veya değişikliğinin, birey ve toplum düzeyinde ortaya çıkardığı yeni, zor ve dramatik hallerin romanı sayabileceğimiz “Mahur Beste” yazarın diğer iki romanının gölgesinde kalmasına rağmen; Tanpınar’ın bir bütün olarak anlaşılmasını sağlayan bir özelliğe sahiptir. Edebiyat bilimi çerçevesinde anlamaya ve anlatmaya çalıştığımız “Mahur Beste”, öncelikle “Medeniyet, insanı yapan manevî kıymetler manzumesidir.” görüş ve gerçeğinin karakteristik roman örneklerindendir. Medeniyet öğeleri arasında Tanpınar’ın önemli bulduğu müzik (Türk Müziği) sadece romana ad veren bir öğe olmaktan öte, insanî tamlığın olmazsa olmazı olarak dikkatlere sunulur.
Mahur Beste can be considered as a novel which describes new, diffucult and dramatic conditions caused by the change of civilisation at a personal and social level. Despite this work has been overshadowed by Tanpınar’s two other novels, it nevertheless helps us to understand the author as a whole. Mahur Beste, which we have tried to understand and explain in this study, is one of the novels that reflects the idea and reality which says that “civilisation is a poem of moral values which makes a human being”. Music (Turkish Music) Tanpınar gives much importance among the elements of civilisation, not only gives the novel its name, but is presented as a must for human completeness.
