SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY TEACHERS' VIEWS ABOUT NATURE OF SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE

Abstract

In this research views of science and technology teachers about the nature of scientific knowledge were examined. 74 science and technology teachers who work at various primary schools in one of the big cities of Turkey participated to the research. Data of the research were obtained from Views on Science, Technology and Society, VOSTS, six-items questionnaire developed which was chosen as available for the aim of research and adapted to Turkish. In conclusion of the analysis, it was seemed that views of majority of science and technology teachers on tentativeness of the nature of scientific knowledge are realistic, and they have naive views on epistemology of scientific knowledge. And also, it was determined that almost all of the science and technology teachers have naive views towards "hypothesis become theories and then theories become laws".

FEN VE TEKNOLOJİ ÖĞRETMENLERİNİN BİLİMSEL BİLGİNİN DOĞASI HAKKINDAKİ GÖRÜŞLERİ

Abstract

Bu araştırmada, fen ve teknoloji öğretmenlerinin bilimsel bilginin doğası hakkındaki görüşleri incelenmiştir. Araştırmaya Türkiye’de bir büyükşehirde çeşitli ilköğretim okullarda görev yapan 74 fen ve teknoloji öğretmeni katılmıştır. Araştırmanın verileri Bilim, Teknoloji ve Toplum Üzerine Görüşler anketinden “Bilimsel Bilginin Geçiciliği”; “Hipotezler, Teoriler ve Kanunlar”; “Bilimsel Bilginin Kesinliği veya Belirsizliği”; “Bilimsel Bilgilerin Epistemolojik Durumları” gibi alt boyutları kapsayan ve Türkçe’ye uyarlanan altı soruluk bir anketle toplanmıştır. Analizler sonucunda fen ve teknoloji öğretmenlerinin büyük bir bölümünün bilimsel bilgilerin değişkenliği konusunda gerçekçi, epistemolojisi konusunda naif görüşlere sahip oldukları görülmüştür. Ayrıca öğretmenlerin tamamına yakının “hipotezlerden teorilerin, teorilerden de kanunların oluştuğuna” yönelik naif görüşlere sahip oldukları tespit edilmiştir.
