ABSTRACT Regarded as the founder of Sociology in Turkey, Ziya Gökalp's influence has not been confined to thesocial sciences. Gökalp's thoughts shaped the formation of the Republic of Turkey after the dissolution of Ottoman Empire. Gökalp's traces can be found in the public's political, economic and socio-cultural restructuring. In an attempt to combine social values (national culture) with the elements of Western civilizations that inspired his thinking, Gökalp considered the relations between the politics and society and asserted that the structures and identities to be constructed should be imposed by the state through the elites that were aware of the people's conditions, referring also to authoritarian methods as necessary.
ÖZET Türkiye'de sosyolojinin kurucusu sayylan Ziya Gökalp'in etkisi sadece sosyal bilimlerle synyrly kalmamy?tyr. Özellikle Osmanly Ymparatorlu?unun da?ylmasyndan sonra kurulan Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devleti'nin olu?umunda Gökalp'in dü?ünceleri uygulama alany bulmu?tur. Yeni Devletin siyasi, ekonomik, sosyo-kültürel yapylanmasynda Gökalp'in izlerine rastlamak mümkündür. Dü?üncelerinde kendi toplumunun de?erlerini(milli kültürü) hareket noktasy edinerek Baty medeniyetine ili?kin unsurlary bunlarla birle?tirme çabasy görülen Gökalp, siyaset ve toplum ili?kisine bu açydan yakla?my? ve in?a edilecek yapylaryn ve kimliklerin kendi halkyna yabancy olmayan seçkinler tarafyndan Devlet aracyly?yyla ve gerekirse otoriter yöntemlerle gerçekle?tirilmesi gerekti?ini savunmu?tur.
