A Case of Meningitis Associated with Acinetobacter Baumannii
Acinetobacter baumanni, which is known among one of the etiologic agents causing nosocomial respiratory system infections has been rarely reported as a cause of meningitis. A forty-three year old man was hospitalized after a blunt head trauma. On administration, it was noticed that he had epidural hematoma. In the postoperative fourth day, seeing the clinical picture was going worse, a lumbar puncture was performed. The culture cerebrospinal fluid yielded Acinetobacter baumannii. The patient was treated successfully with imipenem/cilastatin in a duration of thirty days. The presented case here, Acinetobacter baumanni meningitis, is a rare clinical entity that can be encountered nosocomially.
