ÖzTarihsel dönemler şehir ve bölgelerin jeopolitiği açısından incelendiğinde araştırılan şehir ve yörenin hangi özelliğinin öne çıktığı ve şehirlerin kimlikleri, şehir ve bölge tarihi araştırmalarında önemli olmuştur. Malatya şehri tarihsel sürecinin çeşitli dönemlerinde bir sınır şehri olma hüviyeti ile öne çıkmaktadır. Malatya, Roma-Bizans-Emevi-Abbasi mücadelesi döneminden itibaren tarihsel süreçte geçiş bölgesinin odağında önemli bir sınır merkez olmuş, Osmanlı Devleti ile Memluklu Devleti ilişkilerinin odağında yer alan bir sınır şehri olarak da, 15. yüzyıl boyunca ve 16. yüzyıl başlarında bölgede önemli rol oynamıştır. Makalenin amacı, Osmanlı Devleti’nin I. Bayezid döneminde Fırat boylarına kadar sınırlarını genişlettiği dönemde Malatya bölgesinin Osmanlı hakimiyetine geçişi ile sınır şehri oluşunu; Osmanlı-Memluklu arasında sınır şehri durumunda iki devletin baskısı altında kalan Dulkadirli döneminde Malatya bölgesinin siyasi hadiselerin odağında olması ve Osmanlı’nın Mısır seferi öncesinde Malatya’nın da içinde bulunduğu bölgeyi alarak sefere gitmesi ile ikinci kez tam anlamı ile Osmanlı hakimiyetine geçişini sebep ve sonuç ilişkileri çerçevesinde ele almaktır. Çalışmada yazarın “XVI. Yüzyılda Malatya Kazası” adlı doktora tez çalışmasında bu konuya dair bilgiler farklı bir perspektif ile ve genişletilerek ele alınmış ve daha önce tezin mevcut akışını bozmamak amacı ile ele alınmamış konulara değinilmiştir. Malatya yöresinde Osmanlı-Memluklu nüfuz mücadelesi anlatılarak, Malatya’nın sınır şehri oluşunun Osmanlı-Memluklu ilişkilerine yansıyan durumu ve sonuçları ele alınmıştır.AbstractAs the historical periods are evaluated in terms of the geopolitics of the cities and regions, the distinctive features and identities of the concerned city and region becomes more of an issue in researching their histories. During the various courses of history, Malatya seems to have become prominent as a frontier town. Malatya, located at the crossroads of the roads, became an important frontier center since the starting of conflicts between Romans-Byzantines and Abbasids-Umayyads. It played an important role in the region during 15th and in the early 16th century at the center of the Ottoman Empire and the Mamluk Sultanate relations. The objective of this article is to discuss the issues within the frame of cause and effect relationship such as being Malatya as a frontier town when Malatya came under the rule of Ottoman Empire when it expanded its borders up to the banks of the Euphrates during the reign of Bayezid I, being the Malatya region centre of political events between the Ottomans and the Mamluks when the Beylik of Dulkadir heavily felt the pressure of two states and falling entirely under the rule of the Ottoman Empire before Selim I conquered an area which also covers Malatya during the Egypt campaign. The information and data included in the author’s dissertation “Malatya Town in 16th Century” regarding this subject has been broadened with a different perspective and elaborated the issues which had not been reviewed before not to break up the coherence of the said dissertation. After the struggle for influence between the Ottomans and the Mamluks around Malatya is evaluated, how being a frontier town for Malatya is reflected in the circumstances and results in terms of the Ottoman-Mamluk relations.
